Join our Monthly Volunteering Community Program

“Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth” – Muhammad Ali.


Overview & Purpose

This volunteering program organized by UCMUSA and the Nawawi Center aims to revive the soul with the simple acts of kindness that will get the community together for a good cause. Monthly volunteering events will be held which will involve helping out people in need or the planet itself.

How does it work?

Every month there will be a different volunteer event related to the sunnah of the prophet peace be upon him. However, if you attend each event for 6 months in a row, you will receive a certificate for your efforts.

Who can join?

Anyone! You can choose to join that specific event, or you can join the program itself, which will reward you a certificate in the end (good for the CV!).

Upcoming Events

To fulfill the requirements and receive your certificate, you need to fully attend 6 events. Potential volunteering events are as follows:

  • Replanting Red-zone area for wildlife and marine: (Confirmed for 8th of April 2017)

“When a Muslim plants a tree, whatever is eaten from it is charity from him and whatever is stolen is charity and whatever is subtracted from it is charity”

  • Cleaning Masjid Al-Nur & University Musalla

It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah that a black man (or a black woman) used to clean the mosque, and he died. The Prophet (SAW) asked about him, and they said that he had died. He said, “Why did you not tell me? Show me his grave.” (Or he said, “her grave.“) So he went to her grave and offered the funeral prayer for her.

-Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 458; Muslim, 956

  • Planting

Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said, “If any Muslim plants any plant and a human being or animal eats of it, he will be rewarded a if he had given that much in charity”

-Sahih Bukhari

  • Visit the Orphanage

“I and the person who looks after an orphan and provides for him, will be in paradise like this” (putting his index and middle fingers together)

-Sahih Al- Bukhari: Book 78, Hadith 36

  • Feeding

A true believer is not he who eats to his full whilst his neighbour goes hungry at his side.

-Muhammad (pbuh)

  • Animal Care

A companion of the prophet (pbuh) asked, “O Allah’s Messenger! Is there a reward for us in serving animals?

He (pbuh) replied, “Yes, there is a reward for serving any animate.”

-Bukhari 42/11

  • Repair Projects

A’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her), said that he used to repair his shoes, sow his clothes and used to do all such household works done by an average person.

-Sahih Bukhari
